The violin, alternatively known as the fiddle, is a wooden string instrument , the smallest and highest-pitched instrument in the string family in regular use. It has four ebony pegs adjusting the four strings tensions, that in turn changes the pitch that its tuned in perfect fifths ( G3, D4, A4, E5 ). It is most commonly played by drawing a bow across its strings, but can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers ( pizzicato ). The components of a violin are usually made from different types of wood. Violins can be strung with gut, perlon, steel or other synthetic strings. The violin comes in a variety of sizes from 1/32 – 4/4.
